When rehab isn't enough
Get your injury properly assessed
BG Rehab gives general guidance. A physiotherapist can examine your injury, tell you exactly what it is and tailor your plan. See one if your injury isn't improving after 2 weeks, keeps coming back, or you're unsure what it is.
Get urgent help instead if you have
- A suspected broken bone, a joint out of place, or you can't put any weight on the leg: go to A&E or an urgent treatment centre.
- Calf pain with swelling, or sudden breathlessness or chest pain: call 999.
- Numbness, severe pain or a hot, swollen joint with a fever: call NHS 111.

Choosing a physio yourself
- Check they're registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). Only registered physiotherapists can use the title. Check the HCPC register
- Look for a sports or musculoskeletal (MSK) physio who works with footballers.
- You can usually see an NHS physio through your GP, and in many areas you can refer yourself.
- Take your BG Rehab weekly summary (Safety & physio tab) to your appointment. It shows how your pain and confidence have changed day by day.
